Using MMO Glider to level your character in World of Warcraft.

Transcribed by Kimmi Clark

Hello, I’m Markee Dragon and I’m here with Rabid Dog from the glider forums. Rabid Dog is actually a professional botter and he makes a little bit of money from botting. He has been kind enough to bring in one of his bots today to show us a little bit about glider and see what we can do with it. Rabid Dog, can you tell me a little bit about this character.

RD: Well this is a level 60 Blood Elf Warlock. His trade skills are skinning, that’s the main trade skill but considered taking up tailoring. Although, I prefer to sell the extra cloth for gold.

MD: With leveling him up, how much work has it taken to get him up to level 60?

RD: Well, the work part of it is fairly simple, there are a lot of profiles that people can download, and I prefer to actually create my profiles. You’re very first character that you level to 60 will take you the longest because you have to find good locations and create profiles. After that it’s all about setting and forgetting, I’ll update his gear and update his spells, but for the most part there really is no work.

MD: So would you say that using glider makes it faster to level up than not using glider?

RD: Oh it most certainly makes it faster. I’m one of those who enjoy playing the game so I will always have 3-7 bots running on my other computers in my house while actually playing the game on the side.

MD: You mentioned his trade skills, how does glider help you with working on those trade skills.

RD: Well I like to take skinning, just to hide the death swath that it will typically leave behind it in the path. Herbalism is not bad but it doesn’t always find them all. Mining isn’t bad either but again I prefer things you can gather for, say, tailoring, and skinning and leatherworking.

MD: I found that when I was botting I was actually able to make pretty good bank off of getting the leather and the skinning skill, especially at a low level.
What kind of character do you like the best for gliding?

RD: Well for gliding I prefer the warlock and the main reason behind that is the free mount that you get. You could also run a paladin, but again the warlock is actually going to kill and run to 60 or 70 a lot faster. Not to mention they’re one of the better classes to sell.

MD: For leveling up, how long does it really take? Let’s say I’m at level 10, do you think I could hook up glider and be 11 by the next day?

RD: Very easily actually. That’s counting the learning curve on how to turn the glider off and on and how to get it all fired up. You need to read the help file and that type of stuff. It’s fairly easy and I would probably say it’s THE easiest bot to just pick up and learn and start using.

MD: I see right now that this guy is taking on some pretty high level creatures and getting some pretty good loot right now too.

RD: With this particular glide he gets a lot of reputation, items, and just a ton of cloth.

MD: So how long can you run?

RD: Well with a Warlock you’re limited a little bit by the duration of your equipment. I’ve had him run this particular character for up to 10 hours straight. Even once all of his gear is broke; even if just one is working he still moves through and continues right on.

MD: For a 10 hour run you must have full backpacks full of some very good loot.

RD: Actually I run what’s called “loot filter” to get rid of all the grays and other garbage that you typically pick up. I will typically end up with bags full of rep items and cloth or greens, blues, and actually ended up with several epics.

MD: I know that glider is a violation of terms of service for World of Warcraft but how secure is glider? Am I going to get busted?

RD: Well, the possibility is always there. I find that it’s not glider that gets you busted. 9 times out of 10 it’s somebody running past and you not having your settings secure enough, for example, your follow settings, log out settings, and death settings. If somebody watches you die 15 times in a row because you’re rez’ing in a bad spot it kind of flips a flag at them because nobody human would do that.

MD: How do you deal with players messaging you? Do you respond to them or do you just ignore them?

RD: I typically ignore them. Now the key to avoiding the messages is you don’t want to bot on any mobs that are quest mobs. The more remote you can go the safer you are.

MD: I was told the other day using special character names in your name like an e with an emote, makes it really hard for other players to type in.

RD: That is an option. The only worry I’ve ever had with that is you can attract attention to yourself and people will actually report other players that have those types of names because they don’t feel it’s fair that you can do that.

MD: Well everybody can do that, I guess they just don’t know it.

RD: The next thing you know a GM is contacting you asking you to change your name and you’re not responding.
MD: Yeah that wouldn’t be very good. Why do you personally use glider and what’s your fascination with it?

RD: I first started glider back in 2004 just a few months after it was released to the public. I virtually quit WoW, I had hand leveled 3 characters to 60 already and I was tired. I didn’t want to run any characters through those grinding levels again. I just wanted to try some other classes and I had a friend tell me about glider and that’s what sparked it. I purchased it and started participating on the forums and I’ve been an active used ever since. I’ve always, even since Ever Quest days, been about making a little money on the side because I don’t want to take money from myself or my family to play a game. So it’s nice to earn a little bit on the side to pay for the habit.

MD: Who doesn’t? If you can pay for the habit it’s really good. I want to thank you again for coming in and showing us this bot. I wish you much success with it.

RD: Thank you!
